Communication, Technology and Culture


I finished the thesis, after four years, I can say that, despite the enormous technological development, the organizations employ strict procedures on communication and culture. Strongly based on empirical data that show clearly the control of information and the coercive mechanisms, this study confirms the hypothesis about human resistance to changes, and emphasize the role of organizational communication to surpass cognitive and cultural gaps. The problems of the study are related to communication restriction in the face of reconfigurations induced by microelectronics, which demands techniques to carry on the activities. These contexts may have cognitive and cultural fissures that weaken the innovations. The analysis allowed critical discussion about the cultural resistance of professionals and lack of effective organizational communication linked to the emphasis on exclusion strategies, participative-authoritarian mechanisms, to technological fascination and the lack of diagnosis of gaps which interfere with assimilation of knowledge.
